On a glorious still evening ideal for fast flowing hockey both teams entertained the partisan crowd of parents, OEs and interested others.
Loyalties from some spectators, namely the Rivers-Moore and Gomez contingent were split as they had family interest on both teams. John Rivers-Moore provided a verbal ‘hutspah’ on regular occasions to drive whoever was in the ascendency. Rick Gomes (7779) went over and above the call of duty filling in as umpire for the first ten minutes until Jonny Clarke arrived. The legend that is Phil ‘Beanie’ Roussel (6702) completed the umpiring trilogy and we are grateful for their efforts.
The game itself ended in a 2-2 draw with the goal scorers being:
OEA - Liam Rivers-Moore (11566) and Ant Stokes (9895)
EC - Cam Rivers-Moore and Adam De La Mare
Both goalkeepers were outstanding on the night. Jack Webber (11446) doubles up as a rugby flanker and he brought this attitude to his custodian duties for the OEA team.
The OEA team was superbly led by Andrew Lindsay (5927) who has also been instrumental in the success of the OEA team playing in Division Two of the local leagues.
James Ovenden (7671) Hon. President of the OEA was present during the evening and kindly presented the Trophy to the two captains.
Refreshments were provided for both teams and spectators post-match.
Thanks to Mr Good, Master i/c Hockey for his work through the year and for providing the opposition who were a credit to the College.
