I have recently been elected to serve on the St Peter Port parish committee (“Douzaine”) and am looking forward to assisting in parish matters, and helping in general, very much.
I have already meet some fascinating parishoners and learned lots of new things that I did not know before. When most people think of “Town” they think of the shopping area where most people congregate, but in reality it is much bigger! I also was astounded at how many parish pumps the parish owns and maintains. It is of course an honour and a privilege to be invited to various official events in my capacity as Douzenier but it is not all about pomp and ceremony, there is much practical work to be done, and I can recommend to everyone to “have a go” if they fancy trying to get elected.
I was also given another important job this year, that is assisting with the Guernsey 2023 Island Games, and I am on the organising committee in the form of an Office Support (Voluntary Administrator) role. There is an enormous amount of work still to be done to get next year’s Island Games off the ground, and I am privileged and honoured to be given the opportunity to participate. I am particularly looking forward to the shooting and the cycling!
