Births Marriages & Deaths |
It is with very great sadness that I inform you of the news that Roger Perrot (5450) died on 3rd March 2019. I cannot claim to have known Roger well but in recent years through my involvement with the OEA our paths crossed on many occasions, Roger being a former President and subsequently Vice-President of the Association. If I am honest I was in awe of Roger before I met him and remained so after I had met him too.
It would be difficult for me to encapsulate exactly what Roger gave to his College and his island during his life. In this respect I shall rely upon and adopt the following sentiments of Bruce Parker (4747), a close friend of Roger’s and Chairman of the College Foundation and Gibson Fleming Trust:
"Throughout the entire history of the College, it would be difficult to name anyone who has been quite so devoted to its well-being. Not only has Roger been one of the College’s most generous benefactors financially, he also occupied just about every position possible in its governance - Senior Director, Chairman and Patron of the College Foundation, Chairman of the Gibson Fleming Trust and President of the OE Association. He was also a leading member of the group which helped saved St James, the College chapel for many years, from destruction."
"As a pupil he was Senior Prefect, won a scholarship to the Royal Military College of Science at Shrivenham, gained an honours degree in physics at the University of London followed by English and French law degrees. His record of political and voluntary service to Guernsey is second to none."
"We have lost a College great, an island statesman and a very dear friend"
A full obituary will follow.
