Alex Bates (10876)

Here is Alex giving direction to one of the actors on the set of his film Occupied.

My favourite days at Elizabeth College were always when I had Film Studies or Art lessons to look forward to; the teachers were massively supportive of me pursuing my filmmaking dream. Following my time at The Northern Film School, I returned to Guernsey to write and direct the short film Occupied, which tells the story of Carolyn, who must navigate life under Nazi occupation after her husband Will is killed in the White Rock bombing.

Creating this film was a huge challenge but we had an incredible time and we're all enormously proud of the outcome. We had a huge amount of support from locals, including many Old Elizabethans. The film's performance in local screenings and international film festivals has far exceeded our expectations. Myself and the rest of the team at White Rock Productions are now embarking on our next film project, Dare to Dream, which tells the story of a sensitive aspiring chef called Theo and his relationship with his toxic celebrity chef father, Ryan. We wanted to push ourselves by creating something completely different to Occupied in terms of tone, time period and story. We can't wait to release this new film to the public!
