L'Olures 'The Myths'

Charlie in her studio at home.

Charlie Buchanan (9092), EC Art teacher and artist/illustrator studied at Blanchelande and Elizabeth College before going on to complete a BA Hons degree in Fine Art at Falmouth School of Art. Her own practice is strongly influenced by stories and she has published three illustrated books with her husband Magnus Buchanan, Head of English at College.

Charlie's latest body of work L'Olures which means 'The Myths' in Guernésiais acted as a starting point for the 2021 Write Stuff competition. Charlie created a range of resource materials to inspire local children and exhibited four large scale watercolour paintings in an exhibition curated by Art for Guernsey at the Guille-Alles Library in May. These paintings form the beginning of an ongoing project which seeks to explore how myth continues to inform our lives whilst helping us to understand the human experience.
